The coach
Matt has spent 26 years in soccer. He grew up in Hood River, Oregon, came up through club soccer and the IMG Academy, coached by former pros from Manchester United, Aston Villa, West Ham and the Portland Timbers.
After three seasons at the University of Portland he played nine years professionally in Denmark, Germany and the United States. His last stop, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, included the club's academy: individual work, group sessions, full teams. Player development became the job.
The foot skills and European-style training he got as a kid made his career. That is exactly what he teaches in Portland today.

His guidance helped me achieve my dream of earning the opportunity to play Division I soccer at UC Santa Barbara, and I couldn’t recommend him more to any player looking to take their game to the next level.
Training with Matt has had a huge impact on my growth as a player. Since I was young, he has helped me develop my technical skills, improve my touch on the ball, and build confidence. His knowledge of soccer and ability to challenge players has pushed me to become a better player.
Matt also knows how to make training enjoyable. Every session is competitive, engaging, and filled with positive energy, which makes it easy to stay motivated and keep improving. I’m incredibly thankful for everything he’s taught me throughout the years. His guidance helped me achieve my dream of earning the opportunity to play Division I soccer at UC Santa Barbara, and I couldn’t recommend him more to any player looking to take their game to the next level.

GSA didn’t just teach me how to play the game, it taught me how to think the game, how to work, and how to carry myself on and off the field.
Coach Matt Dallman and the GSA training program have played an instrumental role in shaping both the player and person I am today. From my early days playing on a second team in Portland, Oregon, to captaining my side at the Philadelphia Union Academy and continuing on to compete at the Division I level at Xavier University and Saint Bonaventure University, GSA has been a constant in my development.
Every step of the way, I’ve leaned on the foundation built through GSA. The technical standards, the intensity, the mindset: those values were ingrained in me from day one with Coach Matt, and they’ve stayed with me through every challenge and level of the game. GSA didn’t just teach me how to play the game, it taught me how to think the game, how to work, and how to carry myself on and off the field.
What separates GSA is Coach Matt’s commitment to long-term growth. He invests in his players with purpose and intention, constantly pushing us to reach the next level while never losing sight of who we are as individuals. His belief in me, even when I was just a kid trying to break through in The Gorge, gave me the confidence and tools to pursue and reach goals I never thought possible.
Being part of GSA is more than just training, it’s joining a standard of excellence. Every time I step onto the field, whether in a college game or a training session, I carry the GSA mentality with me. Coach Matt and the GSA experience have left a permanent mark on my journey, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

The program helped me learn from early on that the game is more than who’s the fastest and strongest but rather how smart you are on and off the ball and that was an important skill that Matt helped me learn.
My name is Jaden Dubon and I’ve been training with Matt Dallman and the GSA academy for many years. GSA has helped me develop my technical abilities and guided me to become part of the player I am today.
Living in Hood River it was always very hard to find a trainer or place where I can develop but Matt and GSA helped change that for me by providing weekly trainings and opportunities to learn and develop my technical abilities. Matt has helped me throughout my career with guidance from his experience from playing at the pro and collegiate level.
The program helped me learn from early on that the game is more than who’s the fastest and strongest but rather how smart you are on and off the ball and that was an important skill that Matt helped me learn. GSA has helped me with my path from club to NAIA to now at the division 1 level and I will forever be grateful to have had these trainings and learned from one of the best.

Matt is the best and most professional trainer I’ve ever worked with. He’ll improve your technical ability, soccer IQ, and confidence on the field.
I started working with Matt in late elementary school when I decided to take soccer seriously. My mom signed me up for camps, private trainers, and everything she could to help me improve, but I quickly realized Matt’s training was different. I was young, hungry, and eager to get better, and he helped me build a strong foundation in dribbling, finishing, and the fundamentals of the game.
Before my first ODP tryout, I was nervous, but because of all the work I had put in with Matt, I was confident in my abilities and made the team. From then on, he continued to push me every year. Coming from a small town, his coaching helped me close the gap and eventually earn the opportunity to play college soccer in one of the best Division II conferences in the country.
What separates Matt is not only his knowledge of the game but also how much he cares about his players. He always notices the small details that make a big difference and has the right advice or drill to help you improve. He’s been there for me every step of the way, always willing to help me reach the next level.
Matt is the best and most professional trainer I’ve ever worked with. He’ll improve your technical ability, soccer IQ, and confidence on the field. Even though we’ll probably never agree on who’s better between Ronaldo and Messi, I’d recommend Matt to any player who wants to take their game to the next level.

From the start, Matt focused on drilling the fundamentals of technical skill, which helped me regain confidence in both my ability and my game.
I started working with Matt while returning from an ACL injury and preparing for my first college season. At that point, I had been out for nearly two years and had only been back playing for about three months when I began training with him. There were a lot of things I needed to improve and practice and Matt was a big piece of that process.
From the start, Matt focused on drilling the fundamentals of technical skill, which helped me regain confidence in both my ability and my game. His knowledge of soccer is incredible, and he provides very specific coaching points on movement, scanning, positioning, and technique that have helped me understand the game better. Matt creates drills and training sessions that consistently challenge me and push me to become more technical, think more quickly, and grow into a better overall player.
I’ve worked with him every summer for the past three years when I’ve come home from college, and his sessions have helped me stay sharp while tailoring the training to the specific skills I want to improve before returning for my college season. Beyond being an excellent coach, Matt is someone who genuinely cares about the success and development of his players. He creates a fun training environment but ensures that we get better every session.

Coach Dallman played an integral role in my development as an individual player and teammate growing up. Through individual and group private training, he helped improve my technical skills while also capitalizing on the skills of my teammates. Additionally, coach Dallman’s high standards pushed me to maximize my skills and hold myself to the highest standards. I couldn’t be more thankful for such an amazing coach!

After Matt knew I wanted to play in college, he sat down 1:1 to go over his network of colleges and clubs out of his own time.
Before I met Matt, I had always dreamed of playing soccer at the collegiate level and beyond. However, given that it was my Junior year of high school and I didn’t have any film or club affiliation, the odds were not high. After Matt knew I wanted to play in college, he sat down 1:1 to go over his network of colleges and clubs out of his own time.
I continued to train under him in a small group that would improve to play in college across various NCAA divisions. On top of this, Matt treated me like family. He gave me my first pair of real Nike cleats, a job, and a discounted rate for his sessions because he knew I was low-income. After debuting my USL 2 season last summer, I visited my hometown and was pleased to see Matt coaching the next generation with the same care and intent.

When I first began working with Matt, I was struggling with my confidence and performance on the field, but through his coaching and support, he helped me overcome these challenges and develop into a good player.
I have had the great opportunity to be coached by Matthew (Matt) Dallman. Through his guidance, I was able to build character, grow as an athlete, and become more confident in who I was as both a person and player. When I first began working with Matt, I was struggling with my confidence and performance on the field, but through his coaching and support, he helped me overcome these challenges and develop into a good player.
Under his coaching, I made significant strides that ultimately contributed to my success as a collegiate athlete, where I was able to make a lasting impact within my team. Matt’s influence extends throughout the entire The Dalles and Hood River, Oregon soccer community. Having grown up there and now watching my younger brother participate in local programs, I’ve witnessed firsthand how he continues to provide children of all ages opportunities to grow and develop their skills.
Through both my personal experience and ongoing observation, Matt consistently develops players to perform at their highest potential, making him an exceptional coach who focuses not just on athletic development but on personal growth that extends far beyond the soccer field.

What sets Matt apart, and what’s rare even at the top, is his ability to turn years of pro-level experience into a deep understanding of the game, and then design training that reflects that insight.
I started working with Matt Dallman during one of those pivotal “make or break” moments that every athlete faces. I was good, not great: athletic, but unrefined, and my game was lopsided. Matt recognized that immediately. More importantly, he knew how to shape my development in a way that matched the highest standards of professional soccer.
When Matt reached out to me for this testimonial, I was honestly surprised to hear I was one of the first players he had ever worked with. At the time, it felt like he’d been coaching for decades. He was still playing then, but already had the presence of a seasoned coach. That speaks not just to his soccer IQ, but to something even rarer: his ability to empathize, communicate, and deliver information in ways that actually land.
What sets Matt apart, and what’s rare even at the top, is his ability to turn years of pro-level experience into a deep understanding of the game, and then design training that reflects that insight. That’s what makes the real difference over time: the sharpness of a turn, the timing of a cross, how often you check your shoulder in a 90-second span. These are the margins that separate good from great, and Matt knows how to teach them.
But what stood out just as much was how enjoyable training with him was. It was intense, focused, and demanding, but also some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a field. I looked forward to every session, because I knew I’d come away sharper, smarter, and more confident.
Looking back, that period shaped me far beyond just my technical ability. It gave me a new standard for what good coaching looks like, and what it means to really develop as a player.
